What is SEO and How Does it Work?

What is SEO and how does it work?
Search engine optimization is a digital marketing strategy to optimize your website to get organic or unpaid traffic from the search engine results page (SERP). It is a technique of designing and developing a website to increase the quality and quantity of traffic to rank well in search engine results.
SEO can be categorized into two categories:
On-page SEO- It involves all the on-site techniques you employ to ensure that a webpage will rank on a SERP. This includes It includes providing good content, good keywords selection, putting keywords on correct places, giving appropriate  title tags, site speed,  URL Structure, image alt tags, internal linking and more.
Off-page SEO- It involves all the activities that you do away from your website to raise the ranking on SERP. It is entirely based on links to your site from other sites. Back links is the heart of off page SEO.
Here is a quick overview of how SEO work….
Step 1:  Keyword Research
Keywords are the words and phrase that user’s type into Google.
By doing keyword research, you can find popular keywords that are related to your products and services that can attract your target audience.
Step2: Relevant and Fresh Content Creation
Relevant content will attract more people, receive more links, and have increased chances of ranking higher in the search engines. You can optimize the content by including selected keywords. That content should be about the right keywords, informative, and easy to read
Step 3: On -page Optimization
This majorly includes HTML Tags (Header, Title tag, and Meta description), Page Security, URL Structure, and Image Alt Text.
It is important to use right Title tag and Meta description as it tells search engines what your web page is about. So you can include your chosen keywords to boost the searchability of your page.
Meta descriptions provide a description of what the page is about, are often displayed in the SERPs underneath the title of the page. This should include your keyword and also provide enough details to tell the reader what the content is about. This can help improve Click through rate (CTR).
Sub-headings – Not only do sub-headings make your content easier for visitors to read, but it can also help improve your SEO. You can use H1, H2, and H3 tags to help search engines better understand what your content is about.
Internal Links – Building internal links, or hyperlinks to other content on your site, can help search engines learn more about your site. For example, if you are writing a post about the value of a specific product or service, you can link to the product or service page in your blog post.
Image optimization: Adding images including keywords is a good way to make your web pages more appealing. This will help search engines better index your images but it is important to avoid over-optimization.
Page Performance
Pages that take a long time to load or do not render properly on mobile will rank lower in SERP, as users will get frustrated, leave, and increase the bounce rate. Search engines evaluate this and use it as a key page ranking factor, so it’s crucial for marketers to consider the image file sizes on their pages, reduce redirects, and improve the mobile responsiveness of their site.

Step 4: Off Page Optimization
It refers to the page ranking factors that occur off your website, like backlinks from another site. It is one of the key factor in ranking. The number and quality of backlinks is the biggest factor of Off-page SEO.
Backlinks are basically votes from other websites. A link from another website is a vote of confidence that your site contains good quality content and is trustworthy
So the more of these “votes” you have, the higher your site will rank in Google and other search engines.
Social Promotion
This is also one of the important factors though you do not have direct control but you can improve the chances of boosting by creating quality content which will be liked and shared if content is relevant.

These are just a few key factors that influence search engine rankings.
